No Title Necessary

TOKYO (AFP) – A Japanese government website crashed Wednesday as people raced to take up an offer of a half-price McDonald’s hamburger in exchange for pledging to fight global warming.

  1. Just for fun: The way I have this figured, a Big Mac has about 100g of beef. To grow this much beef, it takes 37 liters of water and produces the greenhouse gas emissions equal to driving for an average car for 20 minutes. This does not include the energy and water, etc. to grow and process the wheat for the bun, the veggies and eggs to make the “special sauce” (1000 island dressing), cook the beef and the bun, produce the cardboard for the container, and truck these to the restaurant…

  2. Useless fact – In Latin America, the ‘happy meal’ is known as the ‘cajita feliz’ – literally, ‘the happy little box’

The problem with these US food franchise giants is they are too pervasive, too enormous. It doesn’t matter what they sell, it will damage the environment. For instance, McDonalds made the menu healthier (hard to make it more unhealthy) and almost immediately became the world’s largest supplier of salads. This meant they were using massive amounts of extra water washing this.

It’s like having an elephant in your living room, it really doesn’t matter how they sit, how careful they are going to the bathroom, etc, there’s no way around the trouble they are going to cause.

    Cull the elephants.
