Want to See Something Really Scary?

Check out the Storm Worm Bot Net.

This combines “SETI At Home” with the “Melissa Virus” and “Denial of Service” attacks. Those of you who are nerdy enough to grasp the enormity of this threat, will feel enormously threatened.

There is a hacker (or group of hackers) who have introduced a worm into the massive network of Microsoft computers. This worm lies dormant on millions of computers–possibly yours. The hackers who control this worm can send a command to millions of computers and ask them to do whatever it wants. They can spam any company with Denial of Service Attacks. They can send e-mails. If the tool becomes sophisticated enough, they can all vote for their favorite video on YouTube.

Experts are theorizing that a country could “rent” Storm Worm to help launch attacks on another country. This is not kid stuff.

And the coup de grac:

“Last month, Ren-Isac, a collaboration of higher-education security researchers, sent out a warning that the Storm worm authors had another trick up their sleeves. The botnet actually is attacking computers that are trying to weed it out. It’s set up to launch a distributed denial-of-service attack against any computer that is scanning a network for vulnerabilities or malware.”

You will be assimilated.

  1. The worm is the spice. The spice is the worm.

    * * *

  2. Yet another reason to use a Mac.

    * * *

  3. HE who controls the spice controls the universe!

  4. I’m trying to figure out a way to blame this on Bush… suggestions?

  5. When a huge terrorist cyber attack brings down all the lights in the country for two weeks, Bush will declare a state of national emergency and make himself dictator. Then we can say that this was his own plot all along.

    Sound viable?
