Ramblings about Obama

Obama is now “the man.”

Did anyone else have the same reaction to this news as I did? As soon as I heard it, I suddenly feared for his life. Weird.

Secondly, while I support Obama, it is not without some reservation. I like his message of hope, but I don’t think we can truly heal from the seven years of tribulation we just had until we acknowledge the suffering, make an accounting of it, and hold people accountable. I’m not sure Obama is going to do that. He seems eager to just skip merrily down the primrose path believing that we’re off to see the wizard. But we must pay attention to the man behind the curtain.

With that being said, who do you all think he will pick as his running mate?

Clinton <— most likely, most politically expedient choice. I wouldn’t be too pleased. But if it secures the White House, whatever.

Gore<—impossible, not terribly expedient, but I would be pleased.

Jim Webb<—this would be a nice choice! He’s another junior Senator, also has radical ideas, and is “untouched” by the system. However, it would lack the gravitas that people seem to think Obama lacks.

Bill Richardson<—a contender, and a pretty cool guy in my book

Joe Biden<— lots of experience, but he likes the sound of his own voice just a teensy bit too much. Would he try to overshadow Barack?

Wesley Clark <—Not a bad choice. Will add Military cred, Southern appeal.

Dianne Feinstein/Janet Napolitano/some other female<— wouldn’t that be a slap in Hillary’s face?

Anyone else?

  1. I hope it’s Jon Stewart.

  2. I have a few suggestions:

    1) Rev. Jeremiah Wright – something of a surprise choice, but would possibly help Obama secure the 0.0002% of the African-American vote that he is currently lacking. Mr Wright would help make Obama appear less threatening to white voters by being ‘extra black’ – a contrast thing.

    2) Vanilla Ice. As the Republicans home in on Obama being a “black man acting white”, what better riposte than a white man acting black? Moreover, Vanilla Ice has already stated his wish to – “Stop, collaborate, and listen…”

    3) Todd – yes, yes, I know that the Obama/Todd dream ticket has already received global media attention, but I just think it has a great ring about it. Todd could bring in those men who vote primarily on the basis of fluctuations in the cost of John Deere tractors and the colour of the candidate’s skin

    4) Jeb Bush – would guarantee an Obama win. Period. Jeb could also help explain where all the Federal $$$ disappeared to (and make sure Obama gets his share)

    5) A really enormous fat guy – Basically, Obama would use this man mountain as a human shield during public events to ward off would-be assassins. Possibly best to choose a really enormous fat guy from the South, maybe Alabama, for those dangerous forays into Republican nutjob strongholds.

  3. Actually, 4 makes me think of an even better running mate – CEO of Diebold. Game Over!

  4. Obama/Clinton is a foregone conclusion. As I’ve said before, the Dems are vigorously engaged in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Pairing these two is the dream ticket the Republicans need to energize their disillusioned electorate. McCain will win in a landslide.

    I’m not joking.

  5. Just shoot me now. Get it over with.
